THE STARTING POINT

How to choose a travel pram

A practical decision guide: child suitability, carrying, folded fit, total cost and support.

THE QUICK ANSWER

Start with your child’s approved setup and the hardest part of your trip. Then compare weight, folded fit, handling and total cost. Use published specifications to narrow the list, and a physical trial to make the final decision.

Define your non-negotiables

Write down your child’s current age and size, your storage measurements, who will carry the pram, and the journeys it needs to handle. Confirm the exact model’s age and weight instructions with the manufacturer.

  • Frequent stairs: carry comfort and a secure folding lock.
  • Small car: opening clearance and usable boot space.
  • Public transport: folding procedure and handling in narrow spaces.
  • Flights: operating-airline rules and a gate-check backup plan.

Try the whole sequence

Practise braking, folding, lifting, carrying and reopening, with the accessories you plan to use. Test with the retailer’s permission before purchase. If two people will use it, both should try the handlebar.

A quick fold in a demonstration does not show whether you can access the basket or carry the pram comfortably. Look beyond a single headline feature.

Compare the complete cost

Add the carry bag, rain protection and any manufacturer-approved attachments you need. Check current local prices and support rather than converting a foreign headline price.
