Confirm the airline’s handover and collection process, remove loose items, secure the fold, and keep the baggage tag. Ask whether you will collect the pram at the aircraft door or baggage reclaim.
Before leaving home
Check the operating carrier’s current stroller allowance and any restrictions. Photograph the pram’s condition and identify the folding lock. Use protection suitable for the model and keep anything needed in transit in a separate bag.
Two airline examples to check before you leave
American Airlines allows each ticketed customer travelling with a child or to adopt to check one stroller and one car seat free. Both can go at the counter, or one at the gate and the other at the counter. Non-collapsible strollers and stroller wagons without built-in child safety straps must go at the counter; its policy directs other strollers to the gate before boarding.
British Airways limits aircraft-door return to single-piece, slimline, fully collapsible pushchairs no larger than 117 × 38 × 38 cm including wheels. The service depends on destination; larger pushchairs are collected at baggage reclaim. This is hold transport, not cabin permission. These policies were consulted on 23 October 2026; recheck your operating airline before departure.
At check-in and the gate
Ask where to hand over the pram and where it will be returned. Confirm what happens during a connection, especially if a different airline operates the next flight.
Remove loose accessories and empty the basket before folding. Keep your baggage receipt accessible and follow staff instructions about when to fold.
On arrival
Check the agreed collection point. Inspect the frame, wheels and folding mechanism before use, and report visible transport damage through the airline’s process promptly.
British Airways says aircraft-door return is available only at certain destinations and subject to its size criteria. Do not assume the same process at both ends of a trip.
